Simple Steps to Sexy Skin

If you do it right, your best makeup is your own skin’s natural glow.

Nothing is sexier than healthy skin. Perhaps this is because everything that enhances the appearance (makeup, clothes) eventually has to be removed – that is, except skin: which is probably why so many people spend so much on skin care products. These products command a huge share of the amount spent on personal care and cosmetics. Spending for skin cosmetic procedures (like Dermabrasion and Botox) came to almost $2 billion in the past years.

Believe it or not, you still can have great skin without spending a great amount of money on lotions, moisturizers and fancy treatments like chemical peels. All you need is some common sense, a little discipline and a lot of self-love.

- Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate some more. There is a reason why ¾ of your body is made up of water. Most of your organs (your skin included) need water to be able to function normally. So help your body by drinking 8 or more glasses of water a day (preferably 10). Sodas, tea and coffee do not count because they actually cause dehydration.

- Keep clean. Taking regular baths or showers and keeping your skin clean and fresh will give you that glow and provide exfoliation and blood circulation. Be careful not to over-scrub, though, as it forces premature skin to the surface. It may look good at first but the skin will age and become dull sooner.

- Protect your skin and allow it to rest. Remember that your skin is the largest organ of your body: it is that part of the body that is most exposed to the elements, including harmful radiation from the sun. To combat this, stay away from sunlight during the hours of 10am to 3pm and wear sunscreen when going outdoors.

With all that stress, you should allow your skin (and in essence, your entire body) the time it needs to recover and rebuild damaged cells in preparation for the following day.

- Avoid smoking and drinking. Next to harmful UV rays, cigarettes and alcohol are the worst culprits of stealing your skin’s healthy youthful look. They add toxins to a body and shows not only on your skin but in the rest of your body as well.

Having great skin need not be expensive, you just need to be smart and practical. In no time, your skin will get back that sexy glow.

Using Makeup Right To Improve Your Appearance

As people grow older, washing the face and applying an astringent is not enough. Women apply make-up on their face to make them stand out. There are many brands available and selecting the right one is needed to improve your appearance.

A concealer can help hide the dark spots on the cheeks and below the eyes. Select a color that is lighter than the foundation you will use. If the concealer is likely to cake, apply an eye cream beforehand.

Foundations come in different shades. You should choose one that is nearest your skin color. Most of these come in packs that have a small mirror and sponge for easy application. Uneven application should be fixed by using your fingertips. This can be applied as many as two to three times a day, depending on the person.

The cheeks are most visible when the person smiles. This will make it easier for the individual to brush up on spots that were not covered during the first coating.

The color of the eyebrows is an important part of enhancing your appearance. There are two ways to do this. The first is by using a pencil and the other is by using a brush. There are people who choose one over the other but most people have experienced better results when using a brush.

Women who want to stand out, especially at parties should use some eye shadow. Many brands have eye shadow in three different colors which can be used at the same time. The lightest shade of the three can be applied below the eyebrow, the medium should be used in the crease and the darkest shade should be applied on the eyelids.

Eyelashes can be improved by using an eye liner. A person can use this along the base of the lashes.

Besides an eye liner, an individual can apply mascara on the lashes. Most women choose a color which is similar to the color of the hair or a shade slightly darker.

The most important thing to do before going out is apply some lipstick. Many women choose the red tones but other shades that compliment your skin tone can also be used.

A person doesn’t always have to look glamorous when going out, but a few touches of make-up here and there are more than enough to make the your face stand out.

Holiday Tips & Treats That Won't Play Tricks On Your Waistline
by: Dianne Villano

Halloween – so starts the Holiday Season. The average American gains 7-12 pounds between Halloween and New Year’s . The next series of articles will help you ensure that you won’t be among them. First, Halloween. As Halloween rears it’s head, so does the plethora of wonderful smelling chocolates and other treats that tempt us as we walk through the aisles of our favorite stores. I will cover some tips, tricks and nutrition information for many of the popular candies to help you make the best choices . The moral is - if you can count it and limit it to a single serving , you can work it into your food plan and enjoy the Holiday festivities without sacrificing your fitness goals.

1. Keep your goals firmly planted in your mind. We all get “caught up” from time to time. While in “the moment”, it is quite easy to lose sight of your ultimate vision and why you began your fitness or nutrition program in the first place. I always spend time, prior to the beginning of the Holiday season, reinforcing our client’s “Why’s”. How will your life be better when you are living at your goal weight? What will you be wearing? How will you be feeling? Where will you feel more confident or energetic? How will your weight loss benefit your family ? How are you feeling in your current condition? Why the heck do you want to lose this weight anyway ? I suggest that people make a “why card” and keep it visible for those times when the going gets tough. You can also pick out a favorite outfit which no longer fits , find a picture of an outfit that you would love to be able to wear, find a picture of yourself or someone else that represents your goal or find a “before” picture that represents something that you never want to go back to. Keep them handy for a constant reminder of why you do want to make the choices that will lead you to your goal .

2. Keep an eye on serving sizes and portions – Any food (even not so healthy ones) can be worked into your food plan, it’s just a matter of awareness and balance. Many people label foods “good” or bad. In reality, it is all about portions and serving sizes.

3. Make a plan - If you are like most people, you grab a “treat” or two every time you walk past the bowl. This can add up to hundreds of calories before you know it. Plan ahead and count a few treats into your food plan ahead of time. Count them out in advance and place them in a separate bowl or dish. This will keep you from feeling “deprived” and still allow you to stay on track towards your goals.

4. Avoid the “All or nothing” mentality. Let’s face it, no one’s perfect. Chances are, there will be a time or two when you go overboard. Don’t let this lead into an “I already blew it” binge that lasts until January 1st. No one or two days is going to make or break your fat loss efforts. The key is to get right back on track the next day and consider adding some extra cardio in to work off the extra calories.

5. What is in YOUR candy bowl ? This can make a significant difference in how you manage your weight throughout the Holiday. Be aware, however, that “healthier” does not necessarily mean “fewer calories” , that “low fat” does not mean that you can eat twice as much, and that “lo carb” usually means more calories.

6. Choose candy you don't like: You will be less apt to eat out of habit and “take a piece or two” if you are not surrounded by your favorites

7. Choose alternatives to candy: Give out dried fruits, nuts, raisins, cheese and cracker packets, pretzels, popcorn , or fruit roll-ups for a more healthful “treats”

8. Choose low-calorie treats: Things like Licorice, popcorn, gummy bears, mints and marshmallows are all lower calorie alternatives

9. Choose small portions: Buy fun-sized chocolates instead of their full sized counterparts. Don’t forget to count out in advance your allotted servings for the day.

10. Choose non-food alternatives: You can still enjoy the holiday festivities and keep the trick or treaters happy. Many stores and holiday shops carry a multitude of Halloween miniature toys, cars, glow-in-the-dark necklaces and other fun little goodies.

11. Be informed and prepared: Many people see the holidays as a time where nutrition labels don’t matter because all “treats” are bad. During this time of year it is even more important to look at and compare nutrition labels and to be aware of SERVING SIZES. This will allow you to enjoy the holidays without sabotaging your weight loss efforts. Here is some nutrition information for you to consider. Nutrition information may vary from company to company and may vary from this list, please check your individual food labels.

Tips For Healthy Holiday Eating

When the holidays arrive, many people forget all about their diets and healthy eating. Weight gains of 7 - 10 pounds are common between Halloween and Christmas. To make the holidays easier, these tips will help you with healthy eating through the season and not gaining weight.

Most traditional foods can be made low fat. Turkey is very lean without the skin, and gravy can be made without any fat. Potatoes that are served without butter can be very healthy. The beloved pumpkin pie is nutritious, although it can be made into a fatty dessert with the adding of whipped cream.

Even though the holidays are in, don't forget about the exercise. Keeping weight off during the holiday season is burning off the extra calories. You should plan a walk after meals, park farther from stores when you shop, and take a few walks around the mall before you begin shopping.

During holiday parties and at family dinners, feel free to sample foods although you shouldn't splurge. Decide on what you plan to eat in advance, then stick to your plan. Eat plenty of vegetables, fruit, low fat dressings, and slices of lean meats. Before you go to a party, eat a small snack to help curb your appetite.

If at all possible, avoid alcohol. Having too many drinks can cripple your will power, and also add excess calories to your diet. In the place of alcohol, drink water with lemon. Water can help to limit your appetite and keep you from binging. Also make sure to avoid eggnog, as each glass can have up to 300 calories.

Be flexible with your healthy eating, as one bad meal won't ruin your diet. Try to balance your calories over a few days and don't just look at one meal or day.
